Support the Department of American Studies
Thank you for considering a gift to support the Department of American Studies. We are proud of the accomplishments of our students and alumni, and want to continue to provide our students with support and opportunities as they pursue their higher education.
You may also choose to direct your gift to one of two specific funds, the David Jon Vaca Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship and the Earl James Weaver Graduate Essay Prize. Unlike our Margaret Liebe Sekhon Graduate Scholarship that is funded annually through the interest from a substantial endowment, the Vaca and Weaver awards have no endowment (meaning that when these awards are given, the funding comes out of the account principal). At this time, the funds for both scholarships are depleted to the point that the American Studies Department may soon be unable to award either the Vaca Scholarship or the Weaver Prize. To date, more than 70 students have been assisted by these scholarships (see previous recipients here). With your help, we hope to be able to continue this tradition in the department for generations of students to come.
Thank you again for your generous support of our students and our department. Our department could not exist in its current form were it not for the contributions--intellectual, social, and financial--of our many students, alumni, and other friends and supporters. Should you have any questions about the donation process, feel free to contact the department.
